Hello Parents! Just a quick blog post regarding the use of Canva within the class.  Canva is  a graphic design platform , used to create social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents and other visual content. The app includes templates for users to use. The platform is free to use and offers paid subscriptions like Canva Pro and Canva for Enterprise for additional functionality. Click the link below if you would like to check it out! Canva We will be using the free version only. Please be aware, that in the process of the students joining the class that has been created for 5J, some of the children clicked 'join class using email' rather than 'join class using their school Microsoft account'. This means, that those students were prompted to check their school email account to access a code to join the class. As a result of this, those email accounts may receive marketing from Canva.  Can you please monitor this and let me know if there is anything that should

Dear Parents, In line with the Health, Maths and Digital Technology curriculum, we have been learning how to read the nutritional information panel on the back of common snack foods and comparing their sugar content in grams and teaspoons per 100g serve. We tabulated our results and created a 3D graph with sugar cubes, and were shocked to discover that Tic Tacs have a whopping 92g of sugar per 100g portion! In pairs the children now have the task of investigating the sugar content in at least six items they have at home in the pantry, such as Nutella, Tim Tams, etc. (Please assist your child with this task of recording the amount of sugar per 100g portion of various items. Their investigation can include up to twelve items, so perhaps you could take them along when you next go to the supermarket).  The children will then display their results on a digitally created graph, inserted into a poster created on Canva, with a message demonstrating their understanding of the effects of added

Year 5 Incursion with Josh Whiteland

Dear Parents, For over 50,000 years, the Wadandi and Bibbulman people of Australia's south-west, have walked this ancient land. Their culture is rich and varied, and their knowledge and understanding of the environment and its local flora and fauna is incredible and fascinating. We had an enriching morning with our local Wadandi custodian Josh "Koomal" Whiteland, who told us about the Aboriginal six seasons and how this influences what is foraged/hunted and eaten. The session also included a traditional fire lighting demonstration, and artefact and tool display.     It was a privilege for us to have this time with Josh Whiteland, as no amount of textbook learning can compare to the sharing of authentic, lived experiences, in our ongoing journey of Reconciliation. Warmly, Anne Coltrinari

The children will be presenting their findings in an Information Poster. ENGLISH For Reading this term, we will be continuing with our Novel Study groups, where your child rotates through the roles of Director, Summariser, Illustrator, Connector and Word Finder, and participates in a weekly Book Club Meeting.
