Week 1 Term 4

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful start we've had to Term 4. Your children are enthusiastic and ready to learn and the days seem to be flying by!

HOME LEARNING

Home learning is back on this week. Please continue to monitor your child as they complete their home learning grids and only sign it at the end of the week if you are satisfied that they have successfully completed all tasks.

IN THE CLASSROOM

NUMERACY
We will be working with Data - (collecting, recording, displaying and analysing), and then applying our understanding in a real world context, through investigating the amount of sugar in various snacks. The children will be presenting their findings in an Information Poster.

ENGLISH
For Reading this term, we will be continuing with our Novel Study groups, where your child rotates through the roles of Director, Summariser, Illustrator, Connector and Word Finder, and participates in a weekly Book Club Meeting.

In Writing, we are doing a unit of work on Poetry, learning about different forms of poetry (such as Haiku, Limerick, Acrostic, Ode), their structure and associated language features. Here is a limerick we wrote together in class about Mr Jones, following the a-a-b-b-a structure.

Sad Mister Nicholas was knicker-less,
He just was too poor and too penniless.
He cried out to Mum,
Who smacked his bare bum,
And sent him straight off to the wilderness!

STEM
Your children will be participating in a Junior MasterChef Snack Challenge, in groups of three, where they will select a simple recipe and prepare and present it in a short cooking video. This ties in with the curriculum area of Chemical Science - changing states of matter. We will be learning about melting and cooling solids and liquids, and this concept needs to be incorporated into a snack recipe of their choice. A simple example is chocolate covered strawberries. I will need your help in providing simple ingredients for your child to use.

In week three of this term I will provide more details.

Thank you for your ongoing support, I am looking forward to an exciting term.

Warmly,
Anne Coltrinari
