Term 1, Week 7

Hi Parents and students,

I hope you are enjoying this current change of weather. Certainly is a refreshing change, especially with everything that is going on around the world at the moment.

Affirmation of the Week:

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Swimming Lessons
Swimming lessons continue this week (final week, yay!).

Please ensure that your child has everything that they need to participate fully in each swimming lesson. This includes bathers, rash vest, towel, flip flops (to and from the lesson) and possibly a separate bag for wet bathers etc. All STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO WEAR THEIR SPORTS UNIFORM FOR THE WHOLE WEEK.

Speeches
Speeches will begin this Friday with the first group of students presenting something that is special or precious to them. Hopefully this is not the first time that you are hearing about this as it has been an area on the Home Learning Grid since Week 3.

On Friday of Week 5 I presented ‘my special thing’ (a chilli plant) to give the students an idea of how to present (please note that it was not perfect by any stretch). You can access my speech, the power point that highlights all relative information and the marking key which includes when each child will be presenting via the Speaking and Listening folder in TEAMS.

Speeches should go for roughly a minute to a minute and a half. All speeches will be recorded and uploaded to each child’s Digital Learning Journey for them to reflect on and for you to look at.

I look forward to seeing the first round this Friday.

UPCOMING EVENTS

1.
5H Prayer Assembly - 9am Friday 20th March
·       Popcorn Day for Lakes Entrance and Project Compassion Fundraising. $2 per bag. Please note that we will be at swimming so we will need to order and pay for any popcorn on Thursday.

LEARNING

ENGLISH

Spelling focus for Week 7 is the grapheme ‘E’ (egg)

The comprehension strategy we are focusing on is ‘inferring’. Inferring is when readers combine what is read with relevant prior knowledge (schema). Inferring involves complex thinking. When readers make inferences they are a bit like detectives gathering logical clues to piece together the solution to some mystery.

Two effective probing questions that you could use at home to help your child understand inferring are, ‘What do you think?’ and ‘How do you know?’

The children are currently developing the plots to their narratives.

NUMERACY

The following concepts will be taught over the next couple of weeks.

Number and Algebra: Addition and Subtraction written methods.

Measurement and Geometry: Units of length, Perimeter and Area

Until next time,

Mr Jones
