Week 6 bites the dust!
Dear Parents,
In this gorgeous chaos that is childhood, I just want to take the time to tell you that on a daily basis your children make my heart gleam with pride.
Led by Ollie, the children have started a charity stall, selling loom band bracelets, drawings, origami paper wallets and various other creative craft. So far they have raised over a whopping $110, all of which has been donated to charitable causes such as Timor-Leste, possum rehabilitation, Heart-kids and Project Compassion. The children also regularly collect fresh peppi leaves and grevilias from the school gardens to feed our possum friends Charli and Lola. Kiana hand-stitched a soft, snuggly pillow for the possum babies.... and I catch them countless times a day extending that same kindness and generosity to each other in the classroom.
The most transformative things in life start at its simplest. Begin simply. Start small, and watch the world begin to change, right where you live your ordinary life.
What a fantastic bunch of kids !!!
Ash Wednesday Liturgy
We celebrated the beginning of Lent with a liturgy in our classroom. Here's what Mrs Meyer said about it, "I managed to drop in on Anne's class participating in the liturgy and was so overawed at the reverence and participation; it was a truly beautiful experience".
Lyla, you have a beautifully kind and
gentle spirit combined with honesty and integrity. You have a genuine,
unselfish desire to help those in need, from orphaned baby possums, and
children less fortunate than yourself in Timor-Leste, to your peers at school
on a daily basis. Your keen awareness for those who need help is admirable, and
you embody our school value of Compassion.
Week 6, Merit Award winner - Oliver Hoar
You always come to school with a
smile on your face, eager to be a part of everything the day has to offer. Ollie,
you have an infectious enthusiasm for learning, make knowledgeable
contributions to class discussions and decisively assume responsibility in
group work. True stars rise to the top not by chance but through purpose and passion
and you have both in spades.
Congratulations!
Dear Parents,
As you may already be aware World Down Syndrome Day on the 21st of March. To celebrate this day this year, we are holding a whole school activity centred around the celebration of the day whilst also raising awareness and raising some money for the Down Syndrome WA organisation at the same time. On Monday the 21st of March, we will be hosting a crazy sock day at school. However, it will have a twist, the students will design their sock in art the week before the date (next week). This will celebrate everybody and their individualities and their creativities. What we need from you? Can you please send an old light colour pair of socks to school with your child next week? (Please do not purchase a new one). Can you please make sure that the socks have the students name on the inside? The students will then decorate them during art class. It will be amazing to see all those sock designs on the day and would be a great way to reiterate the true meaning of the day about celebrating people's uniqueness. Then on the 21st of March, the students will wear their awesome designed socks and if possible, bring a gold coin donation for Down Syndrome WA.
Thank you,
Miss Hurst
Please send the socks in on Monday
Year 5 Class Mass
We had a beautiful service on Wednesday morning. I slowed the pace down a little and created space for the children to think big through Godly Play.
Godly Play is a Montessori method of telling Bible stories using simple materials such as clay, fabric and wooden pegs. It enables children to make connections, while at the same time respecting their spirituality. It invites children to connect faith stories with personal experience through wondering questions . . . . in the case of the Prodigal son, which I shared with them .... I wonder if my Dad would forgive me if I did something bad like that...... I wonder what it is like to be starving, with no food.... I wonder what it would feel like to sleep in a pigpen...... I wonder if I could forgive someone who took all my money....
It was a time of depth and reflection for me, and another opportunity to bond with your lovely children.
Our OLC character strength for this week is Gratitude
"If we are to be bearers of gratitude, the world itself will become better, even if only a little bit, but that is enough to transmit hope" Pope Francis. 2020.
Warmly,
Anne Coltrinari
