I hope you had an enjoyable weekend and managed to get out to experience the extra large surf that was on offer. We really do live in such an amazing place!


QUOTE OF THE WEEK


PRAYERS

Please keep the Clift family in your thoughts after their devastating loss towards the end of last week. I am aware that a Year 5 group has already been assembled to help out in any way that they can. Make sure that you get in contact with the group to help out where you can. It's great to see the OLC community banding together during this time of need.

 

SWIMMING TRIALS

On Tuesday, the 23rd of February, Years 4, 5 & 6 will be departing school at 9am to travel to the Geographe Leisure Centre (Busselton) for the swimming carnival time trials. We will be returning to school by lunch time. 

Students will need to wear sport uniform (faction t-shirt) over their bathers. Sport shoes must be worn to school but a pair of thongs may be packed in your child's school bag to travel to and from the pool in. Students must bring in a plastic bag, a rashie, goggles, towel and a
change of underwear.

Children will be taking their lunchboxes with us as Crunch and Sip and recess will be eaten at the pool. Lunch will be eaten when we return to school, therefore, if your child would like to order their lunch from the canteen they will still be able to. Please check your child has filled their water bottle on Tuesday morning.


BUSH FIRE EVACUATION

A bush fire evacuation drill will take place next Wednesday afternoon, 24th February. To ensure a simulated response, a time will not be released prior. Please be available, or have the emergency contact for your child ready to collect your child immediately after you receive the evacuation warning via sms next Wednesday afternoon.

All students need to be collected from their classrooms. The drive through services will not be functioning on that afternoon.

If your child will be collected by someone else during the drill, please call the school, immediately after receiving the SMS warning to inform them of who will be collecting your children.

PAT TESTING


This week we will begin our series of formal PAT assessments which will help further inform our understanding of your child's learning needs, as well as guide groupings within the classroom. They do not need to prepare for these in any way, however it is important that they get a good night's rest each day to ensure they are refreshed and ready to go.


INSIDE THE CLASSROOM

Each week, you will find a little update on what is happening in the classroom in a particular learning area. 

We are have begun our unit of narrative writing in the classroom. The structure and the language features have been covered and today we started looking at using the five senses to create a setting. Over the next few lessons we will explore building a character (using the STEAL technique) and developing a plot. If you ever wanted to follow what we are covering in writing, you can access your child's English folder in the Content Library (One Note).

HOME LEARNERS OF THE WEEK


In this section, you will find some examples of how the students went about completing their home learning grids.


Emerson Hughes was busy in the kitchen designing a 'poo' cake for her brother's birthday. I managed to get a piece today for morning tea and I give it a big tick of approval.
The very talented Holland Sweet was busy sketching.

Hi everybody! Jam packed blog this week, so grab yourself a cuppa, find yourself a nice warm spot in front of the fire and check it out. Term 2 Farewell

 Hello and happy last day of Term 2!!! I hope everyone has a super break, whether that be locally or somewhere across this great state. Drive carefully and we'll see you all in a couple of weeks. Pig season for me so I'll be busy making sausages in Waroona.  Hi Year Five parents! A big thank you to all of the Year Five parents that managed to come in for a chat about your child's progress this year. Both Miss Lombardi and myself have reflected on the process and some key points to come out of our meetings is to provide you guys with some strategies to best support your child's learning at home. READING: As all children should be reading for a minimum of 20 minutes each day, hopefully a time could be set aside each week to engage with their reading. Below is a list of questions that you could ask your child before, during or after reading, to get the conversation started.
