Term 1, Week 2

Kaya,

I hope you are all having a great weekend and have enjoyed the warm weather close to the beach.

Five J has had a great beginning to the new school year! All the kids are happy and adjusting to new faces and surroundings, whilst already completing some diagnostic assessments for their teacher. I am already super impressed with some resiliency being shown down at swimming lessons with the strong easterlies creating a couple of days of less than ideal conditions - albeit, still marvellous weather, so we shouldn't really complain! Wilko also visited the class on Friday - he was exhausted at the end of the day...

SWIMMING LESSONS

Swimming lessons continue this week. I don't want to jinx it but I have also been very impressed with how the students have taken ownership of their own belongings and nothing has been lost or left over at the end of the school day - touch wood. A gentle reminder to your child to hang their towel and bathers out when they arrive home is much appreciated.

BOOK LIST

Just a quick message to say thank you for your understanding with the new approach to displaying our learning.

Just a reminder that each child will need 1 main folder7 display folders (there were some children that didn't quite have enough, so could you please ask your child if that was them and purchase some more throughout the week), a ream of eco lined paper and some sheet protectors

If you didn't manage to send in any tissues etc, please hold off for now and when we are running low on supplies, I'll put the call out.

TIMETABLE (Beginning Week 3)

Please note that your child will need to have their library bag at school on a Monday (beginning tomorrow).

DIARIES

All students in Year 5 have been given a Friendship Journal to organise, track and reflect on their 2023 journey. These diaries will travel to and from school each day.

At the end of the day, the children will be given the opportunity to reflect on the school day. They may write about something that they have learnt or something that they are grateful for or possibly
something that is needed for the following day. This may be a great way for you to strike a conversation about their day (who knows, you may even get more than a one-word answer back).

They will also be using the diary each night to record what they have read, how many pages and for how long. As part of their home learning, your signature will be required each week, but i will speak more about this during the Parent Information Night.

Home learning won't officially start until next week, but could you please begin to encourage your child to begin to read every night for a minimum of 20 minutes.

If you need to contact me about anything, you can find me @

I look forward to seeing you all on Monday of Week 3.

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Until next time,

Mr Jones
