Term 2, Week 4
Good morning OLC!
I hope you had a fantastic weekend,
enjoying the weather and getting out and about. We are 'officially' back! I
just wanted to say a big congratulations to you all for surviving the last 8
weeks and thank you for all of your support.
Affirmation of the Week:
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
1. LAPTOPS – An increasing number
of students are needing to charge their laptops during the day. Can you please
remind your child that they are required to come to school with a fully-charged
laptop for the day…
2. Home Learning – The
Home Learning Grid will begin next week, however, your child will have some
tasks to complete before Friday to get them back into the swing of things.
3.
MERIT AWARDS - Merit Awards will begin this week and as we are
not allowed to have school assemblies, Mr. Lee and Mr. Torrese will be coming
around to each of the classes to present the merit awards.
NUMERACY
The students will be investigating 2D shapes this week. They will be
learning about polygons, quadrilaterals, triangles and circles.
After completing our second week of
multiplication and division, it
would beneficial for all children to practice multiplying by a one-digit number
and more importantly two-digit numbers. Setting out a couple of problems at
home will help your child master this important skill.
ENGLISH
We are currently drafting a persuasive piece on why children should
learn to grow their own food. The students are focusing on their arguments and
are using the ‘P.E.E.L technique to help them construct their paragraphs. We
should be pretty close to editing by the end of the week, so watch this space.
STEM
This term’s unit of work is titled ‘Surviving in Tough Times’ from the
Biological Sciences strand. The students have already looked at what an
adaptation is and explored different types of root system adaptations. Over the
next four weeks, we will investigate how different animals and trees have
adapted to survive in Australian environments.
The students will then design and create a new species of bear that
has adapted to survive in an Australian desert. They will create a diorama of
its new environment and film a short video explaining how its adaptations have
allowed it to survive.
It would be great if you could begin
saving any recyclable materials that may be of use to complete the project.
Until
next time, choose kind…
Mr
Jones
