Term 1, Week 6

Howdy folks!

What an awesome day yesterday! Pumping waves all day, light winds to enjoy a drink down at Yallingup in the evening and saw the International Space Station move through the sky at about 7:05pm. I hope you all had a great weekend!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

SWIMMING LESSONS

Swimming lessons started today and I have to say a huge thank you to you all for being extremely organised. A couple of points to ponder:

1. Students can wear thongs to and from the beach but will need to put shoes back on before going home.

2. We will have a snack at 12:00pm before leaving school at 12:20pm (you may want to pack something extra).

3. We have our lunch when we arrive back at school at 1:40pm.

ALTAR SEVERS NOTE

Your child should have brought a note home last week asking for volunteers to altar serve at our Parish Masses. In volunteering, your child will display a terrific sense of community and leadership to help Father Francis in this way. ALL children must return a note to indicate if they are interested or not. If you did not find a copy of the note in your child's bag, please let me know and I will send another home.

FIRST AID

We have organised for the Year 5 and 6 students to complete a First Aid Response course by St John of God. This is a free incursion and each session will run for 45 minutes. The Year 5 classes will have their training on Monday 22nd March from 11:15 - 1:00pm.

INSIDE THE CLASSROOM

During our maths lessons, we have been focusing on reading and understanding whole numbers - expanded notation, place value beyond millions and rounding to the nearest 100 or 1000. We finished up with a lesson on 4 digit by 1 digit multiplication today which I would highly recommend that you set out a couple of problems for your child to practice (when you have a spare 5 minutes) at home.

We are now set to have the first maths investigation introduced to the class tomorrow.

WATCH THIS SPACE, pardon the pun!

STAR CITIZEN / MERIT AWARD

Congratulations to Holland Sweet for receiving the merit award for Week 4 and to Lulu Wilson for being awarded with the first Star Citizen award for the year. Lulu received hers for compassion. Great job to both girls.

HOME LEARNERS OF THE WEEK

Sam Duffield whipped up a very tasty banana bread.

Matilda Davidson whipped up a pretty impressive hot air balloon.
Kai Gleeson whipped a few of these unsuspecting crabs out of the ocean.

I'm really enjoying seeing the different activities that the children are choosing to do to complete their home learning grids. Keep up the great work everybody!

Until next time...
