Term 2, Week 9

 Hi everybody!

I hope you had a lovely and productive weekend and enjoyed the awesome weather that was on offer. I managed to burn down my bonfire (quite large) which has been sitting there for a while. The video below is actually from the public holiday but it has taken a couple of extra efforts to burn the remaining logs. This now allows me to start preparing for my veggie patch because the bonfire was sitting in prime position. Enjoy!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

VIRTUE:

Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. This week we are looking for people who demonstrate Fairness. Can you encourage your child to show the following?

YEAR 5

5H & 5J Halloween Theme Costume Requirements

-Any Halloween/dress up costume that students can dance in. Does not have to be ‘spooky’ can be any dress up costume you have at home. Please ensure there are no loose parts that can fall off during the dance and that students can move freely in it. If there are dresses/skirts please wear shorts or pants underneath.

-Bare feet

-Halloween inspired hairstyles are encouraged but not compulsory (eg teased pony tail/mohawk etc) but please no hair out (can do half up half down away from face)

FUNDRAISER:

Just a reminder to get busy in the kitchen and put together your recipes for the Year Five Fundraiser. Please contact Kim Archer or Kelly Sweet for more information.

CROSS COUNTRY:

The cross country carnival will be held on the school grounds this Thursday. The day will begin at 09:15am with the Year 3 races. If you were thinking of popping down to have a look, the Year Fives will be the third year level to race, so you would want to arrive at the school sooner rather than later.

IN THE CLASSROOM:

MAKING JESUS REAL

If you were in the need of a little inspiration, watch the following You Tube clip from Prince Ea.

After watching it with the students, we had small group and whole class discussions about the themes that were presented. The conversation then lead to happiness being a possible 'key to your life'. One way to be happy is to see the joy in others when you do something small for them like smiling, including them in games or saying encouraging words. The joy of giving of ourselves could be a Key to Your Life...

Huge congratulations go out to Hudson Archer (Week 6) and Miah Adams (Week 8) on receiving Merit Awards. Great effort!

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Until next time,

Mr Jones
