Term 2, Week 8

Hi Parents,

I hope you had a great weekend and survived the wind and rain. Pig season 2022 is upon us, so I was busy making sausages in Waroona with my inlaws. Plenty of pork and plenty of wine and so great to not have to watch the Eagles play, happy days!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

1. Bear Project Diorama Construction - Wednesday

2. Cross Country Carnival - Thursday

STEM - BEAR PROJECT:

This term, we have been learning about how plants and animals adapt to their environment. The students have been working in small groups to create a new species of bear (based on a current species of bear) that has to adapt to survive in the Australian desert. As part of this project, the groups will be creating a diorama for their bear as well as the bear itself. Each group has written a list of materials that will be required to be in class for Wednesday afternoon. The groups will then present their bears to the class in Week 9 highlighting both the structural adaptations and behavioural adaptations that their bear has taken on to survive. This project will become a Seesaw post, so you will get to see the final product soon.

OLC CROSS COUNTRY:

On Thursday (16th June) this week, the Year 6 students will be taking part in the OLC Cross Country. This will be held in the morning. The students will need to wear their sport uniform (faction shirts, they can bring teddy's and zinc in support of their faction) for this event. Students will arrive down to the oval at 9am for a 9.15am start. All students from Year one to six will be participating. The event should be completed before 11am. Please note the timeline may change depending on the weather. Year 1's will be racing first and Year 6 students to race last. Students will be required to bring a change of clothing (including shoes and socks, with a towel/plastic bag) in case.

Parents are welcome to attend alongside the oval. This carpark will be closed from 8.30am, as the competitors will run through the southern end of this carpark. Please do not park on the school side of Sloan Drive or in the Sloan Drive slip lane as these areas will be part of the course for the older children.

Congratulations to Lyla Pearson for receiving a Star Citizen award for Appreciation. Well done Lyla! A round of applause also goes to Evie Reilly for her Merit Award last week. Unfortunately, she wasn't here to receive it, so she will get it this week.

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Until next time,

Mr Jones
