Term 3, Week 1

Welcome back team!

Whether overseas, up north or in the South West, I hope everyone had a fantastic break with loved ones. I managed to jump on a plane for the first time in six years and headed over east. Spent a couple of days in Sydney before driving the coast to Brisbane. Favourite spot

would have to be Yamba in Northern NSW (great spot for a sunrise - picture below) and a highlight of the trip, funnily enough was the Art Gallery of New South Wales (seeing both the finalists of the Archibald and Junior Archie). I feel I am quite the art critic now and inspired to bring some of the Gallery into the classroom to both respond to and appreciate, but to also inspire the students to create their own self portrait or portrait of someone special to them.

JUNIOR MASTER CHEF

A quick update on our Junior Master Chef presentations. All students will present during Week 2 rather than the first week back. This will allow everyone to make the final touches to their presentations this week (part of their home learning for Week 1). A timetable for when each child will present will be made available this week via One Note.

IN THE CLASSROOM

Writing: Poetry - Limerick, Haiku, Kennings, Ode, Acrostic, Diamante, etc.... culminating in each student publishing a bound book of their best poems.

Literacy Groups: Reading rotations will continue for the first four weeks of this term. The students will then begin preparing for the different roles associated with our Novel Study Book Club which will begin later in the term.

Mathematics: We will be focusing on the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) for the first two weeks of the term.

HASS: Colonisation and Migration

Health: Growth Mindset

Art: Perspective Art, Self Portraits ( Young Archie OLC  - watch this space ) and Responding to Art.

MIRACLE GIRLS AND MIRACLE BOYS WORKSHOP

The Archdiocesan agency Centre for Life, Marriage and Family-Family Life Education team will be presenting an introductory program on growth and development for year 5 students.

Boys and girls will be involved in separate presentations so that they will engage in a program specific to their needs in a safe and comfortable environment. Permission is required for your child to attend. A letter and permission slip will be sent home in the coming weeks.

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Until next time,

Mr Jones
