Term 4, Week 2

Kaya Team 5J,

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. How good has the weather been over the past 3 weeks? I actually can't believe at how quickly this year has gone by. I will be sad to see these kids move on, but we'll have lots of fun before the end of the year.

I've been busy in the garden preparing beds for the summer crops. I've included some photos of the structures I put together for my tomatoes and I'm testing growing my cucumbers up and A frame rather than all over the ground. I'll let you know how they're going in the coming weeks.

HOME LEARNING

We have already commenced our home learning for the term. Just a reminder that the children will have reading, a multiplication and division fact focus plus 1 problem solving activity to complete for the week (this can be found on One Note and they choose to complete either the normal problem or the extension problem). To round out the week, you will need to sign their diary ready for me to sign off on Friday. Thank you for your support with this.

IN THE CLASSROOM

Writing: Informative Writing - Explanations. We are currently reviewing the structure and language features of information reports before writing a shared explanation on how early explorers navigated their ships.

Literacy Groups: We have two more weeks with our current Novel Study Book Club. Your child's booklet will become a See Saw post before we dive right into a new novel study to finish off the term.

Mathematics: We will be focusing on 'Fractions, Decimals and Percentages for the first few weeks. We will be looking at fractions of shapes, fractions of a collection, comparing and ordering fractions, equivalent fractions, mixed numerals and improper fractions, tenths, hundredths, percentages, and adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators.

HASS: Colonisation and Migration

Health / Technologies: Be Well to Do Well - The students will work through a series of challenges on the Makers Empire software. The Challenge Course concludes with a Design Thinking Challenge in which students are asked to design a solution that creates greater awareness of the importance of wellbeing in the development of healthy, happy communities.

Art: Young Archie OLC 2023 is in full swing.

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Until next time,

Mr Jones
