Term 3, Week 4

Hi everybody!

Welcome to another week and another weather system moving across the South West land division. I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. Quick little plug for the Dardanup Bakery which I visited yesterday. Very tasty!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

VIRTUE:

Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. This week we are looking for people who demonstrate hope. Can you encourage your child to show the following?

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

1. Mission Markets:

These are on this Friday 13th August. It is a celebration of our feast day on the catholic church calendar, celebrating our Mother Mary and also acknowledges the 25th birthday of OLC!  Our Feast day will begin with a whole school mass, some activities that involve learning more about Mary and part of the day will be some market stalls.  Our goal for these stalls to collect money to donate and reflect on how we can help others. This week we will be learning more to understand of the special work that is being done by Catholic Missions to support those in real need.

Catholic Mission - Thailand

This year, we are focusing on the students having a fantastic day that focuses on what they can do and give rather than what they can buy or take home. We are also very mindful of being as environmentally conscious as possible so prizes this year will be in the form of OLC Currency...unfortunately it won't pay for the shopping at Coles but the money the students raise will go towards hopefully winning an experience for the winning class!

Please make sure that your child bring NO MORE than $20 - preferably a mixture of coins.

2. Year Five Mass:

The Year Five Mass will be held on the 21st August at 1800. I hope to see as many Year Five families there as possible.

IN THE CLASSROOM:

1. Book Club:

Book Club begins this week. Please refer to the Content Library - Reading Groups - BOOK CLUB for all information. You will find what pages they are required to read each week, each of the student's roles as well as the daily activities for the week.

Each student will rotate through 5 roles over the 5 weeks within their book club group. The roles are:
1. The Director
2. The Summariser
3. The Illustrator
4. The Word Finder
5. The Connector

2. Bear Project:

The students will be diving head first into their Bear Projects this week. The students have designed and labelled their bears, so it is now time for them to construct the dioramas that will highlight the environment that the bear will need to adapt to survive in.

3. Culture, Nature, Challenge:

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the parents that managed to get along and help out last week. The students (and myself) had a great time!

 4. Seesaw:

Please make sure that you have connected with the 5J classroom so that you can receive your child's first post this week. If you need a new invite QR code, please email asap.

Huge congratulations go out to Cruz Uros (Week 3) and Carter Reynolds (Week 1) on receiving Merit Awards. Great effort!

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Until next time,

Mr Jones
